Revolutionary Quartet for $1

Puzzle Notes

To encourage literature and the arts is a duty which every good citizen owes to his country" ~George Washington

Greetings Friends,

On George Washington's birthday, it seems fitting to offer a puzzle that celebrates revolutionary figures. The themed entries carry word lengths that necessite large blocks of black squares, and a low word count of 70 answers. A themed puzzle in a themeless puzzle architecture, if you will. As is often the case, the long answers are easier than a few of the three- and four-letter fill answers. We hope that the crossings will aid in building the puzzle!

I received a good number of emails recently, asking if our puzzle is blogged. Yes, indeed, it is reviewed weekly by the excellent Adesina Koiki; he posts reviews every Tuesday on Amy Reynaldo's blog, Diary of a Crossword Fiend. Adesina's review may sometimes appear at the lower part of the page, so please page down on Amy's blog to find the Crossword Nation puzzle.

If you enjoy this puzzle, please give it a positive rating on Amy's blog. This helps us stay independent and strong. (The link to Amy's blog appears at the bottom of this post -- I don't want to offer a "spoiler" link here!)

Welcome to Week 560 of Crossword Nation. We invite you to take our new puzzle -- "Revolutionary Quartet" -- for a spin.

Thank you for subscribing and for re-upping! Until next time . . .

Cruciverbally yours,

Liz

Solvers of The New Yorker puzzles: Themeless puzzlers, please check out my latest crossword (a "challenging" diversion, per the editors).

Mini Crossword Aficionados: For a quick solve, please try the Daily Mini Crossword in the L. A. Times. It's free! Simply bookmark and visit daily for a new puzzle.

Recovering Lost Puzzles: If, for some reason, our weekly puzzle email doesn't appear in your mailbox on Monday evenings, no worries -- you can always "re-send" the puzzle to yourself.

But first ....

  1. Please check the Spam folder. Sometimes the Crossword Nation emails are redirected to Spam folders. This can happen after a software or system update. If it's not in the Spam folder, then try Step 2.
  2. Visit the Subscriber Portal and Re-send the Puzzle To Your Mailbox. You can always send the latest puzzle (or any puzzle from our archive) to yourself. Visit here:

https://xwnation.puzzleanywhere.com/enable-account/

Choose the "Resend Puzzle" link at the bottom right of the page. From there, you can choose which puzzle to send to your mailbox!

If you enjoy our 'indie' Crossword Nation puzzles, please give them a positive rating on Amy Reynaldo's blog, Diary of a Crossword Fiend. Your ratings help keep our little puzzle shop independent and strong!

Ade Koiki blogs our puzzle every Tuesday. Simply page through Amy's blog to find the Tuesday blog posts. http://crosswordfiend.com/

Happy solving and be well!
