Brief Getaways

Puzzle Notes

Dear Crossword Nation Subscribers,

Greetings to you and yours.

May I see a show of hands? Who's in the mood for a quick getaway from it all?

I thought so. Me too.

I'm ready to zoom away from Zoom calls and start wandering the city on foot again. This week I plan to re-explore downtown Manhattan and take in all that is new and old in this city. For nine hours on Friday, I will hike, gawk, breathe and snack my way around the financial district, and head north to: The Winter Garden Atrium, the 911 Memorial, Foley Square, Tribeca, Chelsea Market, the High Line, Hudson Yards ... wherever my Nikes take me. I'm ever in search of side streets and alleyways I've never visited. Give me all the nooks and crannies of the city! The day will culminate in a welcome reward for an exhausted urban nomad: a Sour Apple Martini and dinner at The Landmark Tavern on 11th Avenue. Now that indoor dining has resumed, I'm ready to visit the wonderful restaurants that have struggled to stay afloat during the past 12 months.

These brief day-long staycations help reboot my brain and I usually come home with new puzzle ideas in my pocket, inspired by an ad on the side of a city bus, a handwritten cafe menu or sidewalk art.

How do you reboot and recharge? Let's all get away from it all, if only for a few hours.

Welcome to Week 509 of Crossword Nation. You are cordially invited to solve "Brief Getaways" as your diversion of the week.

Be well and happy, Dear Ones.

Cruciverbally yours,

Liz
