Oscar-Winning Directors' Cuts

Puzzle Notes

Dear Subscribers,

"The best thing about switching from being an actor to being a director is that you don't have to shave or hold your stomach in anymore"  ~Dick Powell

I’ve always been intrigued by the concept of the “director’s cut.” It’s usually defined as a version of a film – typically released after the initial theatrical run – that reflects the director’s vision. This cut is free of studio interference. In some cases, directors’ cuts are considered better than the original release!  Today’s puzzle was inspired by this film genre.

It would be interesting to have this option in the puzzle business whereby constructors release their original puzzle visions, untouched by newspaper editors.  Ooooh-weeeee ... can you imagine?  (On second thought, maybe that's not such a good idea ...)

Welcome to Week 523 of Crossword Nation.  We humbly invite you to solve “Oscar-Winning Directors’ Cuts” as your crossword of the week.  May you have a happy June week!

Uncut, unvarnished and cruciverbally yours,

Liz
