Puzzle Notes

Greetings Friends,

We almost never know what we know until after we know it” ~Susan Choi, 57-Across

It’s no secret that crossword solvers are often avid readers, and over the years I’ve received excellent book recommendations from our subscribers. Thank you, and keep them coming!

I’m currently reading “The Light Between Oceans” – M.L. Stedman’s gorgeous novel about lighthouse keepers, post-war trauma, love and longing.

Today’s piece was inspired by another fantastic book whose title I’d been saving for a puzzle title. But upon reflection, it seemed more appropriate to weave it into the puzzle architecture, so as to acknowledge the author and her accomplishments.

I love celebrating living writers, some of whom started out as New Yorker fact checkers (as the author of 57-Across did!). Her work is extraordinary and I was bowled over by this book, her fifth novel. No spoilers here, as to say anything more about her book would be to give away key narrative surprises.

Welcome to Week 570 of Crossword Nation. We invite you to solve “Believe!” as your puzzle of the week. Happy solving and reading!

Thank you for subscribing and for re-upping! Until next time, I remain . . .

Cruciverbally yours,

Liz
