Puzzle Notes

It ain't the heat, it's the humility” ~Yogi Berra

 Greetings Subscribers,

When it’s hot and humid, I seek refuge in books and libraries. For their coolness and quiet, libraries made hot summers bearable in high school, college and beyond. During my college years I had a summer job teaching tennis at our outdoor courts. I have no idea how I survived nine hours of daily sun and heat exposure during those summers. (One chalks that up to the hardiness of youth.) On my way home from the tennis club, I’d stop into the public library – all dusty and sweaty from a day on the clay courts – and read the newspaper. Or just sit in the coolness and read a chapter of a book. The librarians never seemed to mind my dusty visits or that I smelled like a pina colada, due to hourly applications of Hawaiian Tropic Coco-Pineapple sunscreen. And so, reading became a lifelong escape and passion.

A favorite on this summer’s reading list is Lucy Foley’s superbly-twisty mystery The Guest List, which provided 34-Across and inspo for theme.
