Puzzle Notes

Dear Subscribers,

It's a brand-new year, which means that many of us are making resolutions, setting up bullet journals and mapping out goals. Standing before a clean slate of 12 new months feels refreshing and somewhat daunting. I read that "intentions" rather than "resolutions" are the preferred goal-setting words these days. Okay then: My intention for 2023 is to make no resolutions that I have no intention of keeping.

And speaking of setting goals -- the inspiration for today's puzzle theme has taken goal-setting to record-setting heights. Admired worldwide (and a longtime friend of crosswords), this star will be remembered for athleticism, philanthropy and humanitarian work.

Welcome to Week 605 of Crossword Nation. We resolutely invite you to solve "Great and Goal-Oriented" as your inaugural crossword of 2023.

I wish you a fantastic week. And thank you for supporting our little crossword shop!

Until next time, I remain . . .

Cruciverbally yours,
