Puzzle Notes

We made too many wrong mistakes” ~Yogi Berra

Greetings Subscribers,

Recently we attended the commissioning of the USS Cooperstown, a Freedom-class ship named in honor of Baseball Hall-of-Famers who served in the military. As photos of the hall-of-famers flashed across a jumbotron -- I was fixed on Yogi Berra. In addition to his achievements as a ballplayer, Navy man (he earned a Purple Heart), manager and coach -- Berra has provided Yogi-isms that have spiced up crosswords for decades. Prolific and homespun, Berra's observations live on in online compilations such as: "Fifty Greatest Yogi Berra Quotes." It's difficult to fact-check the lists to verify that Yogi actually said all that is attributed to him. Yogi's reponse is: "I never said half the things I said." Home run! Thank you, Yogi, for being a good friend to the crossword.

Onward to today's puzzle which is on deck and ready for your consideration. It's Week 624 of Crossword Nation. We invite you to step up and solve "Meet the Racket-eers!" as your feature of the week.
