Puzzle Notes

"I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times,
I've been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed.
I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed"
~Michael Jordan

Greetings Subscribers,

I'm a huge sports fan and I love to play sports. Having played varsity tennis in high school and college, I'm totally absorbed in the four Grand Slam tournaments. And when Wimbledon is on (as it is now), the level of play is so high that I can't wait to get on the court and practice 100 serves. Tennis is like chess, but with more sweat, blisters, leg cramps, electrolyte loss and total physical exhaustion. I love it.

I'm often asked why I don't attend crossword tournaments. The simple answer is -- tennis. I am used to outdoor tennis tournaments, with lots of movement and physical/mental exhaustion. It's hard for me to sit still and solve puzzles in a quiet room. I'm too loud and boisterous -- the Crossword Authorities would eject me from the tournament.

That said, I'm glad that crossword tournaments are thriving -- both in person and on line. It's a wonderful way for us to share our love for words. And speaking of puzzles, today's was inspired by a sport, but one needn't know a thing about sports to solve and suss out the theme. That's the beauty of our obsession with words -- it's all about wordplay and working the angles.

Welcome to Week 632 of Crossword Nation. We invite you to play "Working the Angles" as your featured crossword. Happy Solving!

Be well and thank you for supporting our little puzzle shop. Until next time, I remain . . .

Cruciverbally yours and with respect,

Liz
