“Where words fail, music speaks” – Hans Christian Andersen

Greetings Subscribers,

When I was a kid, I heard Mahler's Fifth Symphony performed by the New York Philharmonic, led by Leonard Bernstein. It was life-changing and inspired me to study the violin. The Adagietto, scored for strings and solo harp, knocked the wind out of me. One could feel the passion of the string players through the synchronized, lush, sweeping bow changes. I'd never heard Mahler before, but the connection was instant and lifelong. Such is the power of music.

Thanks to Pandora and YouTube, we can customize our music listening and indulge as needed. I like to make puzzles while listening to Argentinian tango music (The Gotan Project on Pandora). Flamenco, blues, disco, old-school R&B -- they're all on the playlist. I've wanted to make today's puzzle for a long time, but until I learned about the 27-Down, I didn't have all the components for this theme. A chance visit to a jewelry craft market provided that missing link!
