Puzzle Notes

Dear Friends,

Because I'm feeling a bit under the weather (bad cold which requires rest and hydration), I will keep this preamble short. [pause for applause]

Thank you for your kind words about last week's puzzle whose classic gimmick seems to elicit nice notes from solvers.

This week I'm asking the puzzle title do the heavy lifting because, in my weakened state, I need to rest on the sidelines and allow the crossword components to move us down the field. To that end, we've called in a special unit of asterisks to help us win the game.

Welcome to Week 643 of Crossword Nation. We invite you to solve "It's Payback* Time!" as your diversion of the week. I am on the mend and will be back at 100% strength by next week. Take care and thank you for solving!

Until next time, I remain . . .

Cruciverbally yours and with respect,

Liz
