Why Not!
Puzzle Notes
Dear Crossword Nation Friends,
Quick question:
What do you call snowmen who work at Starbucks?
Brrrrrr-istas!
It's been so mind-numbingly cold outside that we've resorted to mind-numbing humor. During orchestra rehearsal at a local church, it was so cold that our strings kept breaking -- but one soldiers on. At home, the prewar-era radiator is chugging along, faithfully doing its job and keeping the house warm with steam heat, for which I am very thankful. I hope that you're staying warm and cozy during this winter season.
Today's puzzle has six themed answers that originated with 24-Across, a bit of wordplay that inspired the rest.
In other puzzle news: many of you are New Yorker puzzle solvers who've ask for updates on the magazine's puzzle offerings. The editors have asked me to write the "challengers" -- the hardest puzzles of their collection -- that are published on Mondays. (See below for links to the latest puzzles, including free daily mini crosswords in other venues). For print subscribers of The New Yorker magazine, please check out my puzzle in the Feb. 3 print edition.
And now to the main event! Welcome to Week 714 of Crossword Nation. Please enjoy "Why Not!" as your feature of the week. Keep cozy and warm, and Happy Solving!
Cruciverbally yours,
Liz
