Puzzle Notes

"Sometimes the best hiding place is the one that's in plain sight" ~Stephenie Meyer

Dear Crossword Nation Friends,

As spring draws near and the trees start to wake up, I'm amazed by all the insects and birds that hide in plain sight by blending in with their surroundings. A sparrow's patterned plumage of black, brown and gray allows the bird to color-coordinate with tree bark, soil and rocks. Built-in camouflage masks the sparrow's location and contributes to its survival.

I love to solve puzzles that camouflage embedded themes that lurk within, hidden in plain sight until -- POW! You suddenly discover the gimmick! An "aha moment forehead slap" ensues. It's so much fun to be stumped by puzzles and we hope to offer some trickery with this week's crossword.

Welcome to Week 719 of Crossword Nation. Please enjoy "Water, Water, Everywhere!" as your diversion of the week. Be Well and Happy Solving!

Cruciverbally yours,

Liz
